British Truck Racing Championship lights up Le Mans

The British Truck Racing Championship is set for a grandstand finish at Brands Hatch in just over a months’ time after the stars of Division 1 and Division 2 delivered four blockbuster races at Le Mans this past weekend (September 26-27).

Making the annual trip across the English Channel for the penultimate meeting of the season, the UK’s biggest motor racing spectacle took centre stage at the 24 Heures Camions event - where every point proved to be crucial for those in title contention.

David Jenkins and Stuart Oliver are poised to go head-to-head for Division 1 honours after they strengthened their respective championship charges. Action began in the category on Saturday morning with Jenkins charging to pole position in qualifying by just 0.004s.

It was Simon Reid that actually reigned supreme in the weekend’s opening encounter as he fought his way to the front of the field as the red lights went out and then produced a sublime defensive masterclass.

Fending off the race-long advances of Jenkins, Reid was wheel-perfect to clinch his second win of the season. Further back, his brother in the team’s sister Iveco was also driving magnificently as he held off a hoard of driver to secure third.

Race two proved to be a contest of attrition as a number of incidents, two of which included Jenkins, truncated proceedings. When all was said and done, Michael Oliver was declared the winner ahead of the Reid siblings - Craig and Simon.

The Reid brothers would continue their rich vein of form into Sunday’s two contests too as they each tallied a win apiece.

Callum Eason and Jake Evans are poised to repeat their head-to-head battle for outright honours in Division 2 yet again, with the pair having been the cream of the crop yet again.

Having enduring his fair share of bad luck in recent rounds, reigning champion Evans made a triumphant return to the head of the field as he claimed pole and two wins on Saturday. Behind him, Eason and John Powell tallied a pair of second and third place finishes respectively.

He then repeated the feat on Sunday to complete a remarkable clean sweep. Finishing hot on his heels and adding to their own silverware collections was Eason, Powell and Archie Handy - who enjoyed his best showing of the year.
