Get Involved as a Motorsport Official
Every successful race meeting relies on a dedicated team working behind the scenes. From making sure competition is fair and regulations are followed to checking cars, recording lap times and coordinating everything happening on circuit, motorsport officials are fundamental to the running of the sport.
Becoming an official with the British Automobile Racing Club gives you the opportunity to play an active part in motorsport and develop valuable skills along the way.
There are opportunities across a wide variety of roles, and you don't necessarily need previous motorsport experience to begin your journey. Training, guidance and mentoring can help you develop your knowledge and progress as you gain experience.

Clerk of the Course
At the centre of the race meeting, the Clerk of the Course helps control the sporting operation of an event. The role requires a strong understanding of Motorsport UK regulations, excellent communication and the ability to make considered decisions in a fast-moving environment.
Steward
Stewards help ensure meetings are conducted safely, fairly and in accordance with the relevant regulations. They also have an important role in reviewing certain sporting decisions and incidents during an event.
Event Secretary
Organisation and attention to detail are essential to every motorsport event. Event Secretaries play an important administrative role, helping ensure the meeting runs smoothly and that competitors and officials have the information they need.
Race Control & Communications
Good communication keeps a motorsport event moving. Officials working with Race Control help relay information from around the circuit, ensuring the right people receive accurate information when they need it.
Other Motorsport Officials
A BARC race meeting requires people with a broad range of skills. Opportunities can also include Chief Observers, Chief Incident Officers, Chief Marshals, Rescue Crew, Safety Car Drivers and Observers, Fire Car Crew and other specialist positions.
Whichever direction interests you, becoming part of the officials team provides a different perspective on motorsport and the opportunity to make a genuine contribution to each event.

As a Motorsport UK-registered club, the British Automobile Racing Club works closely with Motorsport UK, the governing body for four-wheel motorsport in the UK.
