Championship races heat up at Silverstone on TOCA support package
All but one championship title will be decided on the support bill of the British Touring Car Championship in less than two weeks’ time after a number of contenders staked their claim at Silverstone this past weekend (September 26-27).
Taking centre stage at the Home of British Motor Racing for the penultimate meeting of the season, a total of four categories starred around the 1.64-mile National circuit and they each in-turn set the scene for what promises to be a thrilling finale at Brands Hatch.
One title that has been wrapped up with a round to spare is the Porsche Carwow Carrera Great Britain after Rosland Gold with Century Motorsport’s Callum Voisin capped off a sublime debut campaign by clinching the overall crown.
Having entered the season as the winner of the Porsche GB Junior Programme, Voisin proved to be a tour-de-force in the one-make series, romping to an impressive eight wins and tallying a further three podium finishes.
Arriving at Silverstone in a commanding position atop the standings, the British racer enjoyed a steady weekend as he ran competitively inside the midfield, which proved to be enough to secure honours. Isaac Phelps and Jack Sherwood meanwhile each powered their way to victory.
Dries Van Langendonck will head to Brands Hatch in less than a fortnight with one hand on the Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA title after producing a strong showing around Silverstone.
The Rodin Motorsport driver - who is part of the McLaren Development Driver Programme - scored his seventh and eighth wins of the season to extend his lead to 72 points over Lewis Wherrell in the standings.
While Tommy Harfield also triumphed to become the 13th different winner of the year, Van Langendonck now sits just a few points away from becoming the latest talented teenager to win Britain’s Formula 4 category.
Tom Ovenden remains in the box seat to successfully retain his title in the Power Maxed MINI CHALLENGE JCW after maintaining his advantage at the top of the standings over Max Edmundson during the course of the weekend.
The EXCELR8 Development Driver endured his fair share of highs and lows as he, like several others, was excluded from qualifying. Facing an uphill battle, Ovenden bounced back to score three solid finishes.
At the sharp end of the field, the trio of Olivier Algieri, Nathan Edwards and Sam Gornall starred as they each claimed a win apiece.
Meanwhile, Team Parker Racing team-mates Joe Marshall and Joshua Rogers are set to go head-to-head for outright honours in the Porsche Carwow Sprint Challenge Great Britain after delivering a thrilling three races in Northamptonshire.
Just 15 points separates the team-mates after Rogers extended his current winning streak to five after charging to the top step of the podium in all three contests around the world-famous Silverstone.
The final rounds of the season take place on the weekend of October 10-11 around the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit.
