Ash Sutton over the moon after clinching historic fifth BTCC title

Ash Sutton has shared his immense delight after clinching a record-breaking fifth British Touring Car Championship title at Silverstone this past weekend (September 26-27).

Despite there still being three races left to run in the 2026 season, the NAPA Racing UK driver secured an unassailable lead at the top of the standings around the Home of British Motor Racing and will officially be crowned champion at Brands Hatch in less than two weeks’ time.

Sutton arrived at Silverstone holding a commanding 115-point lead and victory in race two was enough to ensure that he could not be caught, regardless of what happens between now and the final chequered flag falling.

The 32-year-old’s season has been nothing short of remarkable, with the Ford Focus Titanium driver wracking up no less than nine wins and 19 podium finishes on his way to the coveted crown.

His rise to championship superstardom has not only seen him surpass Colin Turkington and Andy Rouse to become the first five-time BTCC champion, but he also has the honour of being the first driver since Alain Menu in 1997 to win the title before the final round.

“I don't think this is going to sink in. Everything has been pretty special today, in every way, and it’s actually been an emotional one,” said Sutton. “I've been trying to hide it for a lot of the day.

“There was a phase where I probably could have got the title won in race one, but that wasn't the true Ash style to go and get the fifth. So, I spiced it up a little bit and made sure it went to race two. Like I said, I wanted to do it in the true Ash style, and I hope I have done.

“The fifth feels like the most special. There's a full force of people behind us, so it’s great to reward them. We've done it in such a manner, and it's going down in the history books for many reasons. Of course, the first title was always going to stick with me, but this is above and beyond.

“To have my boys here today has been very special. I promised Sonny when he was born that I'd get him a championship, which we did in 2023. And, ever since Hadley's been born, I've owed him one, so I've just paid that debt, and now we can celebrate!”

Sutton will officially lift the biggest prize in UK motorsport for a fifth time at Brands Hatch on October 10-11.
