BTCC concludes spectacular 2026 season at Brands Hatch
The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship signed off a historic 2026 season in style at Brands Hatch this past weekend (October 10-11) with Ash Sutton officially being crowned champion for a record-breaking fifth time.
On what proved to be a momentous final day of the season around the Grand Prix circuit, race wins went the way of Tom Ingram and Dan Cammish while Sutton rightfully led the way when it came to title-winning celebrations.
Getting his hands on the coveted title for a historic fifth time, the NAPA Racing UK driver brought the curtain down on a campaign that saw him stand alone as not only one of the great touring car drivers of his generation, but of all time.
Wrapping things up a fortnight ago at Silverstone, the Ford Focus Titanium driver ended the year boasting an impressive record that included scoring a total of nine wins and tallying a further 12 podium finishes.
Sutton wasn’t the only one to savour title glory either as NAPA Racing UK bagged the Teams’ Championship for a fifth successive year, and Alliance Racing/Ford reclaimed the Manufacturers/Constructors Championship once more.
After twice missing out previously, Mikey Doble finally got his hands on the Independent Drivers’ Championship. He also helped LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing snare the Independent Teams’ Championship too.
The celebrations didn’t stop there for Power Maxed Racing as Dexter Patterson became the latest driver to lift the Jack Sears Trophy title. Since the award was introduced, Power Maxed Racing have now helped guide five different drivers to the award.
Aiden Moffat continued his rich vein of recent form by claiming the final ‘Race To Pole’ win of the season on Saturday around the 2.433-mile Grand Prix circuit. The Scotsman topped the times in traditional qualifying and then dominated the 10-lap sprint ahead of Ingram and Josh Cook.
Outgoing champion Ingram proved to be the driver to beat on the last day of the season though as he romped to victory in races one and two.
The Team Vertu racer got the better of Moffat on the soft tyre in a captivating opener before then streaking clear to win on the medium tyre in the penultimate contest of the year.
Arguably, the best was saved till last as NAPA Racing UK’s Cammish won a blockbuster finale. Ricky Collard had starved off an onslaught of attacks to win on the road, however a post-race penalty for a safety car infringement dropped him down to eighth.
That therefore promoted Cammish to the top step of the podium ahead of Sutton, who had challenged for the lead, dropped to ninth and then fought back. Completing the rostrum and securing a career-best finish of third was Power Maxed Racing’s Patterson.
The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship returns in 2027, with the opening rounds of the new campaign slated to take place at Donington Park on April 10-11.
