Croft Circuit ready to welcome BARC for full-throttle weekend

The British Automobile Racing Club heads north to Croft Circuit this coming weekend (August 7/8) for two days of full-throttle action from no less than five championships.

In what is always a popular visit to the North Yorkshire venue – which is owned and operated by the BARC – Croft’s 2.12-mile layout of sweeping curves and precise braking points make it real challenge and a firm favourite for those behind the wheel.

One of the headline acts for the anticipated bumper trackside crowd will be the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres. Renowned for producing edge-of-the-seat wheel-to-wheel moments, the pocket rockets will duke it out in six contests over the course of the weekend.

Former champion Miles Rudman finds himself in the box seat as the driver to beat currently however the likes of Will Gibson, John Mickel, Sean Smith, Jack Parker and Nick Bridgeman are all hot on his heels.

The Caterham Graduates Championship has arguably enjoyed one of its best years to date so far and it looks set to continue at the home of motorsport in the north of England. With near capacity entry lists for its Sigma 135, Sigma 150 and Sigmax classes, the series has gone from strength-to-strength in 2021.

With the business end of the season now rapidly approaching, every point will be critical in deciding who will end the year crowned champion. Notable names to look out for across both days includes Harry Senior, Jamie Ellwood, Ben Winrow, James McCall and Harry Cramer, amongst many more.

Fans will see plenty of variety courtesy of the CNC Heads Sports/Saloon Car Championship too. Organised and run by the Club’s North West Centre, the multi-class category has been a smash-hit for more than three decades now.

Also boasting a bumper grid, some names that will be worth casting a watchful eye over during the weekend’s two scheduled races include Paul Dobson, Jamie Cryer and Graeme Smith.

The Silverlake C1 Racing Series is poised for an emotional return to the track at Croft this weekend as it prepares to pay tribute to the late Angela Lucas.

Whilst competing in the series’ four-hour race at Snetterton last month, Lucas sadly lost her life following an accident in the final hour of the contest at the Norfolk venue. A popular figure amongst the C1 Racing Club members and well-known throughout the motorsport community, Lucas’ tragic passing has seen the sport unite in recent weeks.

The one-make category will take centre stage on Sunday for a three-hour bout and it is expected to boast an ultra-competitive entry as well. Before that however, a parade lap will take place with the entire grid in honour of Lucas.

Rounding out the weekend’s action will be a pair of races from the MINI CHALLENGE Trophy. Matt Hammond currently leads the way however a sizeable accident at Oulton Park recently has left him in doubt to compete; if he doesn’t then the likes of Dominic Wheately, Harry Nunn and Charlie Mann will all be aiming to close the gap to the standings summit.

BARC championships deliver action-packed weekend to remember at Brands Hatch

The British Automobile Racing Club soaked up the sun to produce two days of unmissable, edge-of-the-seat entertainment this past weekend ( June 5/6) at Brands Hatch.

Making the first of several visits to the Kent venue over the course of the 2021 season, a total of eight championships took to the Indy circuit and turned on the style for the enthusiastic crowd that was in attendance.

One of the headline acts during the weekend was the British Truck Racing Championship. Lifting the curtain on a brand new season, the heavyweight behemoths wasted no time in making their presence known as they served up five bruising encounters.

Division 1 saw reigning five-time champion Ryan Smith begin the pursuit of a sixth crown on the right foot as he powered his way to a hat-trick of wins. Martin Gibson and Mark Taylor would go on to end Smith’s winning streak on Sunday as they tallied a win apiece.

In Division 2, defending champion Steven Powell enjoyed an equally impressive start to the season as he, like Smith, scored a trio of victories. Such is the competitiveness throughout the field, Powell was unable to claim a clean sweep as former champion Adam Bint and Craig Reid also stood on the top step of the podium.

It proved to be an emotional weekend for the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres as they paid tribute to Gerard McCosh, a stalwart of the series who passed away earlier this year. A poignant two-lap parade on Sunday saw the entire 34-car grid follow Gerard’s infamous car for the final time before it is retired.

Aside from the tribute, the Legends as ever delivered six pulsating encounters that will live long in the memory. John Mickel, Will Gibson and Steve Whitelegg reigned supreme on the Saturday before Mickel and Gibson added to their tallies on Sunday. Paul Simmons would emerge as the other race winner.

The Pickup Truck Racing Championship made its first appearance at Brands Hatch since 2019 and didn’t disappoint with two frenetic races taking centre stage. Current title holder George Turiccki opened his account for the season with a win in race one before Michael Smith did the same in race two.

Hot off the heels of starring at Donington Park on Bank Holiday Monday, the Kumho BMW Championship was back in action with another two races. Brad Sheehan proved to be the driver to beat in his E46 M3, winning both bouts narrowly ahead of James Card.

Pete Sparrow continued his fine start to the 2CVParts.com Championship as he bagged another brace of wins. Having won at their Cadwell Park season opener, the former multiple champion arrived at Brands Hatch keen to extend his advantage in the points – and he did just that.

Storming to pole position for both races, Sparrow didn’t put a wheel wrong in either contest to stretch his legs out front and take the chequered flag comfortably.

The Lancaster Insurance MG Owners Club Championship boasted a bumper entry list however Steve McDermid wasn’t to be denied from claiming his fourth straight win of the year in race one. William Sharpe finally halted his momentum however in race two, as he claimed a win of his own to cap off a memorable second event for the magnificent MGs.

Steve Burrows and Ray Harris were victorious in the CMMCS Avon Tyres Intermarque Silhouettes whilst the Quaife MINI CHALLENGE Trophy rounded out the weekend’s action, with wins going the way of Matt Hammond and Joe Wiggin.

Blockbuster weekend awaits the BARC at Brands Hatch

Brands Hatch beckons for the British Automobile Racing Club this weekend (June 5/6) for what should be an unmissable race meeting around the Indy circuit, headlined by no less than five races from the British Truck Racing Championship.

In what is one of the must-see events on the UK motorsport calendar, the titans of truck racing will lift the curtain on a brand-new season whilst a number of other championships will also take centre stage to continue their 2021 campaign.

Having not raced at the Kent venue since 2019, this weekend’s BTRC opener is a homecoming of sorts and the expectation that neither Division 1 or Division 2 is going to disappoint those in attendance and watching live online.

Boasting an ultra-competitive entry list throughout, many eyes will be on Ryan Smith in Division 1 as he bids to clinch a sixth consecutive title. Cementing his status as the driver to beat in the premier class over the past five years, Smith has his sights set on making more history however he faces stiff competition.

Former champions David Jenkins and Stuart Oliver are stalwarts of the championship and know what it takes to win. Having run Smith close in recent years, both will be confident that they can string together a season-long challenge to dethrone the current king.

In Division 2, Steven Powell will don the mantel of defending champion. Having narrowly missed out on the crown on a number of occasions, Powell made no mistake in 2020 as he stormed to the title in style.

Now aiming to clinch back-to-back crowns, Powell will be eager to pick up where he left off last year however he too faces competition from a raft of challengers. Former champion Adam Bint, Brad Smith, John Powell, John Bowler and Paul Rivett have all triumphed in the past and will be worth keeping an eye on.

The Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres has proven to be a fan favourite down the years and they will look to steal the show as always. Former champion Miles Rudman holds the early advantage as the pocket rockets descend on the Indy circuit however he will need to be in top form to remain there.

As always, the battle for supremacy is as fraught as ever and with the likes of John Mickel, Daniel Clark, Jack Parker, Steve Whitelegg and Nick Bridgeman, to name but a few, all racing, all bets are off.

Towards the end of the lunchbreak on Sunday there is to be a special two-lap parade in memory of late Legends racer Gerard McCosh. The popular competitor, who tragically lost his life in February after a battle with cancer, will be celebrated by all of his friends within the paddock.

After a year on the sidelines, the Pickup Truck Racing Championship made a popular return at Mallory Park last month and is now revved up to produce more edge-of-the-seat entertainment.

Two pulsating encounters around the Mallory Oval saw Reece Jones triumph to grab the early initiative and he will be hoping for more of the same at Brands. With two races scheduled to play out though, the likes of George Turiccki, Dale Gent, Michael Smith, Daniel Petters, Dean Tompkins and Mark Willis will all undoubtedly be in contention towards the front.

Vintage thrills will be offered up by the Lancaster Insurance MG Owners Club Championship as they write the latest chapter in their season. Steve McDermid scored a sensational hat-trick at the MGOC curtain-raiser and he will be keen to continue his fine form.

Meanwhile, Simon Kendrick, Stephen Amphlett, Stuart Plotnek and Chris Millard have underlined their credentials towards the sharp end of the grid in the past and any one of them could stake their claim around the Indy circuit.

Also taking fans on a spirited trip down memory lane will be the 2CVParts.com Championship. Steeped in more than 30 years of history, the championship has established itself as one of the most exciting single-make categories that runs today.

Multiple champion Pete Sparrow has his sights set on regaining the crown he lost to Alec Graham last year and he made the perfect start by tallying a brace of wins around the undulating twists and turns of the Lincolnshire-based venue. Whether or not he can continue his fine form remains to be seen.

Fresh off the back of their Bank Holiday Monday showing at Donington Park, the Kumho BMW Championship has a quick turnaround to return to the action. Home to all models that run the iconic Bavarian brand logo, the series enjoyed a superlative start a few days ago and

Blockbuster BARC action at Cadwell Park as six more championships blast into life

Six championships lifted the curtain on their 2021 seasons in spectacular fashion at Cadwell Park this past weekend (April 24/25) on what proved to be a memorable few days for the British Automobile Racing Club.

Basking in bright sunshine across both days, the Lincolnshire venue provided a fitting backdrop for each category to begin the new campaign, with edge-of-the-seat entertainment served up around almost every corner.

Boasting a bumper 32-car grid and with six races being played out over the course of the weekend, the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres emerged as one of the headlines acts.

Former champion Miles Rudman kicked off proceedings with a superlative win in the opening encounter before Jack Parker and Steve Whitelegg took a win apiece to round out day one.

Rudman would repeat his race-winning heroics on Sunday as he tallied his second victory before former champion John Mickel opened his account for the year. The categories’ sixth and final heat would see a first for the Legends as Nick Bridgeman wrote his name into the history books as the latest race winner to cap off a meeting that will live long in the memory.

The next generation of motorsport stars showcased what they could do as the Junior Saloon Car Championship delivered a pair of blockbuster races. Providing drivers aged 14 to 17 with the opportunity to take the first steps in their car racing careers, this years entry list was largely made up of rookie competitors, with a few second-year contenders thrown into the mix as well.

Experience ultimately came to the fore as Harvey Caton and Charlie Hand scored a win apiece to kick-start their campaigns off on the right foot.

Peter Sparrow produced a masterful performance in the 2CVParts.com Championship, scoring a brace of wins to establish an early lead in the standings. Bidding to regain the title he lost last year, Sparrow powered his way to pole position for both races and duly converted them into commanding, albeit narrow, victories.

The Max5 Racing Championship saw similar levels of dominance as Paul Roddison laid down a marker to his rivals for the forthcoming season by bagging a pair of wins. One of the series’ most successful drivers, Roddison fended off the charging Andrew Pretorious on both occasions whilst Jeremy Shipley rounded out the podium positions.

There was nothing to separate Alex Cursley and Alistair Dendy in the Carbon8 Hyundai Coupe Cup with Toyo Tires as the pair shared the spoils. Cursley got the better of Dendy in the season-opener before the roles were reversed and Dendy exacted his revenge with a win of his own, leaving the pair level on achievements heading into the next event.

Rounding off the action during the weekend was a pair of full-throttle encounters from the Mighty Minis Championship. Renowned for produced close-quarter wheel-to-wheel action, the one-make series had a familiar feel to it in the Super Mighty Mini class as last years protagonists reignited their battle for supremacy.

Neven Kirkpatrick and reigning champion Ian Slark underlined their credentials as the drivers to beat as they each scored a win apiece. Elsewhere in the Mighty Mini category, Dan Heywood impressed with a brace of wins.

Cadwell Park awaits multiple championships ahead of spectacular weekend

More championships are set to begin their 2021 race seasons this weekend (April 24/25) as the British Automobile Racing Club heads to Lincolnshire to take on the picturesque challenges of Cadwell Park.

Renowned for producing close-quarter wheel-to-wheel action, the undulating 2.19-mile venue is a fitting backdrop for a host of full-throttle categories to begin on the road to title glory in the forthcoming months.

In what is being tipped as one of the most hotly anticipated campaigns in the series’ illustrious 27-year history, the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres has a sensational 32-car grid set to face six blockbuster races.

Defending champion Daniel Clark heads the bumper entry list but with the likes of former title winners John Mickel and Miles Rudman, as well as Jack Parker, Sean Smith, Will Gibson and Steve Whitelegg all vying for top spot – it’s set to be another memorable year for the ‘pocket rockets’.

Fresh off the back of their exploits on BBC One’s Top Gear, the Junior Saloon Car Championship is set to embark on another season with a stacked grid of aspiring 14 to 17-year-old’s aiming to kick-start their careers.

With double title-winner Lewis Saunders moving onto pastures new, the battle to crown a new champion is up for grabs and there is a long list of contenders who are keen to set their stalls out as the early pace-setter. Charlie Hand, Harry Rice, Ruben Hage, Deagan Fairclough and Scholarship winner Chloe Grant are just a few notable entries to keep an eye on.

The 2CVParts.com Championship will begin another short, sharp season at the weekend with a healthy grid of the iconic machines primed and ready to blast into life.

Two 20-minute encounters are scheduled to take place around the flowing layout of Cadwell Park with a number of familiar names eyeing the too step of the podium including reigning champion Alec Graham, Pete Sparrow and Lien Davies.

Further nostalgic action is set to be produced by the much-loved Mighty Minis Championship. Based on the iconic Mini, the one-make series has forged a reputation for producing bumper-to-bumper action and this year looks to be no different with a competitive grid all set to do battle.

Split into the Mighty Mini and Super Mighty Mini classes, stalwarts Neven Kirkpatrick, Paul Ogborn, Ian Slark, Greg Jenkins and Stuart Coombs will all be in the mix for silverware.

Another category that will lift the curtain on its 2021 season is the Max5 Racing Championship. Run on the principle of exciting racing at an affordable price, the Max5 Racing category has yet another ultra-competitive entry list which is headed by series stalwarts Paul Roddison and Jon Halliwell.

Rounding out the weekend’s action will be a pair of races from the Carbon8 Hyundai Coupe Cup with Toyo Tires. Billed as a budget conscious, single-make series, the Coupe Cup has served up a feast of entertainment down the years and the twists and turns of Cadwell look set to throw up even more with a healthy grid confirmed for the curtain-raiser.

Legends Cars entry list surpasses 30 cars as preparations ramp up for new season

The Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres is preparing for one of the biggest seasons in its illustrious history this year after confirming that the entry list for the forthcoming campaign has already surpassed 30 cars.

Despite there being little over a month until the 2021 season-opener at Cadwell Park, the much-loved series has a total of 31 registered competitors – and more are possibly on the horizon.

With reigning champion Daniel Clark having already announced that he will return to defend his crown, fellow former champions Miles Rudman and John Mickel are two drivers that will undoubtedly be in the mix for the title whilst regular front-runner Jack Parker is also back as he bids for supremacy.

Robin Fountain, Paul Simmons, Connor Hughes, Neil Shenton and Chris Needham are just a handful of the other drivers to be named in the latest batch of entrants by the championship.

Legends Cars renames Masters Award in honour of late Gerard McCosh

The Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres has announced a fitting memorial to much-missed racer Gerard McCosh – renaming its Masters Award to the ‘Gerard McCosh Napoleon Award’.

Presented to the best performing driver in the Masters division at the end of each Legends Cars race day, the re-naming of the award is a poignant tribute to the Scottish racer who tragically lost a lengthy battle with cancer in early February.

Undoubtedly one of the most loved and respected drivers in the paddock, the 67-year-old’s passing has left a notable void on the Legends Cars community.

The ‘Napoleon’ aspect of the award’s new name is a reference to Gerard’s famed mascot which always brought a smile to the faces of competitors and fans alike. His illustrious passenger, a pink pig cuddly toy, was arguably one of the most notable faces in UK motorsport.

In addition to the award, the championship has also confirmed that Gerard’s favoured No.69 will be retired from use in the Legends Cars National Championship – another move to acknowledge and honour the popular racer.

“It’s only right and proper we do something in Gerard’s memory, and specifically something which keeps his name part of the Legends Cars National Championship,” said Legends owner Phil Cooper. “Gerard was a larger than life character and someone who always made people smile. Quite simply, a wonderful sportsman and a true gentleman.

“While it is obviously tinged with great sadness, I am delighted to confirm the winner of the Masters class from every round will now receive the Gerard McCosh Napoleon Award. As well as that, we have decided to retire his famous ‘69’ from use in the Legends Cars as a further mark of respect and way of honouring our much-missed friend.”

2020 Season Review: Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres

The Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres witnessed one of the closest title battles in its illustrious history in 2020 as Daniel Clark was crowned champion for the first time in his career.

Returning to the high-octane series for his first full campaign in more than a decade, the 36-year-old pieced together a consistent championship challenge to clinch the coveted crown by a mere 20 points.

Renowned for producing close bumper-to-bumper, wheel-to-wheel action, the popular 5/8 scale series was at its brilliant best as it staged a short, sharp three-event schedule. 

Croft played host to a scorching curtain-raiser which saw three drivers open their accounts for the season. Sy Harraway netted a hat-trick whilst a brace for Jack Parker and a solitary victory for defending champion Miles Rudman made it a weekend to remember in North Yorkshire.

Onto Donington Park next and Clark came to the fore under the flightpath of East Midlands airport as he scored what would be his only race win of the season. Triumphs for Connor Mills and Will Gibson also took place at the Leicestershire venue but it was to be Clark’s front-running consistency that would grab the headlines as he moved level on points with John Mickel.

With the title battle beginning to gather momentum, Snetterton’s six contests would ultimately prove pivotal on deciding the destiny of who would walk away as champion.

Bidding to successfully retain his crown, Rudman enjoyed a superlative weekend in Norfolk as he powered his way to a hat-trick of wins whilst Parker and multiple title winner Mickel also triumphed.

Once again however it was Clark’s relentless front-running points scoring that made him the talk of the town as he left the third meeting of the year topping the standings by 20 points.

As many as ten drivers held a mathematical chance of lifting the crown heading into the home stretch of the championship however the unprecedented situation regarding the ongoing coronavirus pandemic led to events at Pembrey and Brands Hatch being cancelled.

Due to the final two meetings of the season not being run, the final championship standings were taken following Snetterton, therefore crowning Clark as champion ahead of Mickel and Rudman.

Statement: Cancellation of this weekend’s British Truck meeting at Brands Hatch

This weekend’s concluding round of the BTRA British Truck Racing Championship has been cancelled. Although DCMS and Motorsport UK had designated the event as an Elite fixture, detailed discussions have been required with Kent County Council this week following the new lockdown decision.

Given the short timescales now available to competitors, officials and suppliers to make the necessary preparations at this late stage, BARC and MSV have decided to cancel the event in the best interests of the Club and its competitors.

All parties would like to make clear that this decision has no impact on next weekend’s BTCC championship finale at Brands Hatch.

Green light given to November 7/8 BARC race meeting at Brands Hatch

The British Automobile Racing Club is delighted to confirm that the green light has been given for this weekend’s (November 7/8) British Truck Championship race meeting at Brands Hatch to take place as originally planned.

Having consulted with the Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport for guidance, governing body Motorsport UK has confirmed that elite motorsport events will be able to continue over the coming weeks, which includes both this weekend’s British Truck Championship and next week’s British Touring Car Championship finale.

Brands Hatch will therefore host the final rounds of the BTRA British Truck Racing Championship on Saturday and Sunday, with three former champions – Ryan Smith, David Jenkins and Stuart Oliver – all in contention for the coveted 2020 Division 1 title.

Huge interest for 2021 Legends Cars season with capacity entry list ‘extremely likely’

Despite the conclusion of the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres season not taking place at Brands Hatch until early next month, the topic of the 2021 campaign is already being spoken about, with a huge amount of interest having been received already.

Past, present and potential new drivers have all wished to lodge their entries for next year as the finishing touches on a proposed eight-weekend calendar are being finalised.

Despite the difficulties that the motorsport fraternity has faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year, the Legends Cars National Championship has continued to flourish with bumper entry lists serving up a feast of entertainment at each rescheduled round thus far.

That theme looks set to continue into 2021 as well with the prospect of a capacity entry list looking more and more likely.

Phil Cooper, Legends Championship Owner, said: “It’s looking extremely likely we’ll have a capacity entry for next season. On the basis of the calls and emails I’ve been receiving, the phone hasn’t stopped ringing, I think we’re looking at the potential to have one of our biggest grids in years.

“It’s absolutely fantastic, especially in a year which has been so difficult and challenging for society in general, we’re receiving such interest already for next year.

“Drivers currently competing in a variety of other championships, racing newcomers and, of course, our series regulars are all wanting to register for the full season so I’m quite confident the entry for 2021 will fill very quickly indeed.”

BARC delivers spectacular Snetterton showstopper

Snetterton Circuit played host to a breathtaking two days of British Automobile Racing Club track action this past weekend (September 19/20) as six championships took centre stage in Norfolk.

As the condensed 2020 campaign reaches the business end of the season, every point is proving crucial in deciding who will and won’t be crowned champion, and with the stakes as high as ever it added up to an unmissable feast of entertainment.

Producing heavyweight thrills and spills, the BTRA British Truck Racing Championship made its mark with five tantalising encounters.

In Division 1, ten-time title winner Stuart Oliver powered his Volvo to a brace of wins whilst there were also victories for reigning champion Ryan Smith, Mark Taylor and Tom O’Rourke – who triumphed for the very first time in the series.

There were double wins in Division 2 as well as both Luke Garrett and Craig Reid stood on the top step twice whilst Steven Powell also got in on the action at the wheel of his MAN.

From the five tonne, 1000bhp monsters of the BTRA to the small but bonnet-punching Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres, the hits kept on coming over the course of the weekend at Snetterton.

Six frenetic races had fans on the edge of their seats and it was defending champion Miles Rudman that enjoyed the greatest success as he swept his way to a sensational hat-trick of heat wins. John Mickel scored a double of his own whilst Jack Parker picked up the spoils in the remaining race.

The Classic Touring Car Racing Club was in full force

Andy Robinson’s Ford Falcon proved to be the class of the field in the amalgamated Edmundson Electrical Classic Thunder Saloons Championship and Burton Power Products Blue Oval Saloon Series races whilst David Griffin did the same in the combined Laser Tools Pre-93 Touring Cars Championship and Simply Serviced Pre-2003 Touring Cars Championship encounters.

Victories meanwhile were shared in the Poultec – Classic Race Engines Pre ’66 Touring Cars and Shell Oil Pre 83′ Touring Car Championship races as David Howard and Mark Lucock each triumphed.

The Lancaster Insurance MG Owners Club Championship once again boasted a healthy grid and the racing proved to be as thrilling as ever with Steve Darbey and Steve McDermid emerging as the drivers to beat, each of them taking a victory apiece.

Spoils were also split in the much-loved Sports Prototype Cup as well as James Abbott and Morten Dons stood on the top of the rostrum. There was also a podium finish for gold medal Olympian Sir Chris Hoy, who was making his debut in the series.

Rounding off the weekend’s spectacular action were races from the Mini 7 Racing Club.
