BARC quartet serve up spectacular Oulton Park race day

The British Automobile Racing Club took centre stage at Oulton Park this past Saturday (April 2) where four championships played their part in what proved to be an entertaining race day.

Organised and run by the Club’s North West Centre, the sun shone on the picturesque Cheshire venue as an enthusiastic crowd lined the bankings to watch a frenetic day of wheel-to-wheel action.

After kicking off their 2022 season at Silverstone last month, the British Endurance Championship took centre stage for a two-hour contest which ultimately ended up being dominated by the Rob Boston Racing Mercedes AMG GT3 of Wayne Marrs and Tom Jackson.

Set a blistering pace to snare pole position during a truncated qualifying session, the duo proved to be in a league of their own as they charged to victory – lapping the entire field in doing so.

Behind, MacG Racing’s Jonny MacGregor piloted his Taranis to second place whilst the pairing of Chris Goddard and Charlie Hollings guided their RNR Performance Cars Ferrari 458 Challenge to the third step of the podium.

Further endurance thrills around the 2.69-mile International circuit came in the shape of the Praga Cup. Despite a number of incidents producing a lengthy safety car period in the early stages, the fledgling category produced plenty of edge-of-the-seat moments.

Despite losing a door and subsequently spinning, Idola Motorsport’s Miles Lacey and Tommy Foster clinched victory ahead of Jimmy Broadbent and Gordie Mutch.

The Legends Cars National Championship lifted the curtain on a brand new season and the 5/8 scale machines didn’t disappoint as they delivered a trio of exhilarating encounters.

Matthew Isherwood charged to what was his maiden win in the series in race one before multiple title winner John Mickel chalked up his 150th in race two. Reigning champion Miles Rudman came to the fore in a red flag interrupted third contest to make it three different winners from three races.

Rounding off the day’s track action was the season-opener for the CNC Heads Sports/Saloon Car Championship, the flagship category for the BARC North West Centre.

Boasting a bumper entry list which included a number of former champions, the 12-lap bout saw Andrew Southcott claim victory in his MG Midget Lenham.

The British Automobile Racing Club Awards Evening made a triumphant return on Saturday 26th February as champions, officials and volunteers were honoured for their achievements from what was a sensational 2021 season.

Miles Rudman – Winner of The President’s Cup: Awarded to the most successful driver competing under international level, the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres title winner clinched his second crown in 2021 with 17 wins to his name – making him the standout recipient of the coveted President’s Cup.

Charlie Hand – Winner of The Peter Collins Trophy: Awarded to the most promising newcomer competing in a BARC championship, Hand was a worthy winner of The Peter Collins Trophy as he dominated the Junior Saloon Car Championship on his way to the title.

Chris Davenport – Winner of The Sir Clive Bossom Trophy: Designed to recognise and reward BARC Member Marshals for their service and dedication, this award is handed out to the marshal that completes the most volunteering days in a season. Last year saw Chris complete a total of 28 to clinch The Sir Clive Bossom Trophy.

Dan Cammish – Porsche Carrera Cup GB Champion: Returning to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB last year, Cammish re-wrote the history books as he clinched a third title. For 2022, he’s back in the BTCC and teaming up with reigning champion Ashley Sutton to spearhead the NAPA Racing UK entry.

Claire Hedley – British Endurance and Britcar Trophy Championship Coordinator: Having grown exponentially in recent years, Britcar embarks on a new chapter this year as it runs the new-for-2022 British Endurance Championship as well as the Britcar Trophy and Praga Cup. Championship Coordinator Claire Hedley gives us the lowdown on what is to come.

Charlie Hand, Miles Rudman and Stuart Caie head Special Award Winners list

Whilst champions of 2021 took centre stage during the BARC Awards Evening this past Saturday (February 26), a handful of secret awards were presented to unsuspecting winners at the end of the night.

The first award to be handed out was one that was met with rapturous applause in the room as Robert Foote – who tragically lost his life last July whilst on post at Brands Hatch – was announced as the BARC Marshal of the Year.

After powering his way to the Junior Saloon Car Championship title last year Charlie Hand was a worthy winner of The Peter Collins Trophy, which is awarded to the most promising newcomer competing in a BARC championship.

Embarking on what was his third campaign in the one-make series, the Westbourne Motorsport driver proved to be in a league of his own as he scored 14 wins on his way to clinching title glory.

Commenting on the award, Hand said: “I’m over the moon to have won The Peter Collins Trophy – to say it was unexpected is an understatement as I didn’t see it coming at all.

“To share the stage with the other champions and some amazing people was fantastic and I have to say a personal thank you to the whole team and my family as without them this wouldn’t have been possible.

“That trophy is going to take pride of place at home and be on show for everyone to see as soon as they walk in the door I think and it’s winning it is the perfect way to tee up the coming season.”

The commanding, season-long performance of Miles Rudman in the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres didn’t go unnoticed as he scooped The President’s Cup.

Awarded to the most successful driver competing under international level within the BARC, the now two-time champion chalked up a staggering 17 wins on his way to regaining his crown to make him a fitting winner of the accolade.

“I’m absolutely shocked and lost for words,” Rudman said. “I can’t believe I have won this award, it really is a true honour. It’s fair to say that I had a good season; I was on top form all the time and hungry to regain the championship.

“We’re going to be back to defend the title this year and the aim is to hopefully replicate what we did in 2021 and be standing where we are now with some more silverware this time next year.”

Stuart Caie’s contribution to the continued success and growth of the Classic Touring Car Racing Club made him a worthy recipient of the The Gerry Marshall Trophy, having epitomised the philosophy for motorsport that Gerry once did.

Elsewhere, Chris Davenport picked up The Sir Clive Bossom Trophy after completing the most volunteering days over the course of the season whilst Alex Tuson was the inaugural winner of the Trainee Marshal of the Year in memory of Peter Harris award.

Legends Cars Championship set to go green with SulNOx

The Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres will embrace a greener and more progressive future for 2022 and beyond as it partners with Decarbonisation specialists SulNOx Group Plc.

SulNOx, which is making its first foray into motorsport through the link-up with the Legends, has a mission to provide immediate and tangible steps towards carbon neutrality for hydrocarbon fuel. Whilst all cars will use SulNOx fuel conditioner, series stalwart Rickie Leggatt will pilot a SulNOx liveried car during the coming season.

London-based SulNOx is a greentech company specialising in providing responsible solutions towards the decarbonisation of traditional fuels, with patented additives reducing the production of environmentally unfriendly emissions and, at the same time, leading to significant cost savings.

Created from natural, biodegradable ingredients, SulNOx additives emulsify water and increase lubricity and oxygen, therefore making fuel burn cleanly and more efficiently. In essence, using SulNOx means a more complete burn of the fuel, converting current waste particulate matter into useful energy while lowering emissions.

Champions crowned during spectacular weekend at Brands Hatch

The British Automobile Racing Club took centre stage at Brands Hatch this past weekend (November 6/7) for an action-packed penultimate event of the season that saw champions crowned across a number of different championships.

In front a huge trackside crowd at the Kent venue, edge-of-the-seat entertainment was served up across both days as title battles went down to the wire.

One of the headline acts of the weekend proved to be five unmissable contests from the British Truck Racing Championship. Delicately poised at the top of both the Division 1 and Division 2 standings, the on-track action saw the pendulum in the standings swing back and forth – and it was captivating to watch.

The destiny of the Division 1 title went down to the very last race of the season but when the dust settled, Ryan Smith had done enough to be crowned champion for the sixth consecutive year.

Entering the weekend needing to overturn a small points deficit, the Mercedes driver produced a superlative performance to storm to four commanding victories and with it, championship glory. In Division 2, Jock Borthwick, Willem Breedijk and Steven Powell shared the spoils however it was Craig Reid that wrapped up the title.

Miles Rudman returned to the summit of the Legends Car National Championship with MRF Tyres for the second time in his career. Having pieced together a commanding campaign, Rudman hammered home his points advantage with a commanding victory on Sunday to take the big prize.

Vice-champion John Mickel, Sean Smith, Will Gibson and outgoing champion Daniel Clark emerged as the other race winners over the course of the weekend.

Charlie Hand capped off a memorable year in the Junior Saloon Car Championship by winning both races and the title. Cementing his status as the driver to beat in the one-make series, the Westbourne Motorsport reigned supreme in dominant style.

Dean Tompkins and David O’Regan claimed a win apiece in the Pickup Truck Racing Championship however it was the title for George Turiccki, as he successfully defended his title.

The Classic Touring Car Racing Club’s two all-comer races, which were staged to honour those that line the track to marshal events, saw spoils shared. Scott Kirwan powered his Renault Clio to victory in the opener before Colin Claxton triumphed in race two.

In the Carbon8 Hyundai Coupe Cup, Alistair Dendy ended his season on a high with a dominant race-winning performance as he topped the podium on two occasions.

Fireworks set to fly for blockbuster BARC title-deciding weekend at Brands Hatch

Fireworks are set to fly both on and off the track at Brands Hatch this weekend (November 6/7) as the British Automobile Racing Club stages its penultimate event of the 2021 season.

On what is set to be a blockbuster two days around the Indy circuit of the Kent venue, the curtain will fall on a number of championships as titles will be decided in front of what is expected to be a large trackside and TV audience.

Taking centre stage – and for good reason – will be the British Truck Racing Championship. Just five points separate the top three drivers in the battle for Division 1 supremacy and with five races scheduled to play out, the gloves are very much off.

David Jenkins leads the ways as he bids to clinch a second crown however Martin Gibson and multiple reigning champion Ryan Smith are well within striking distance. With every point proving to be crucial, expect the pendulum to swing back and forth before the chequered flag is waved on final time.

In Division 2, Craig Reid sits on the cusp of wrapping up the title however he will need to be at his brilliant best to hold off the challenge from Steven Powell, who he has gone wheel-to-wheel with throughout the year.

Following a sabbatical year in 2020, the Pickup Truck Racing Championship’s return has proven to be a smash-hit and this weekend could see George Turiccki claim a second successive title.

Having been the driver to beat for much of the campaign, the title winner of 2020 is on course to defend his championship crown, barring any major issues.

Miles Rudman and John Mickel are set to go head-to-head in a bid for Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres glory. With a total of 1,200 points up for grabs during the weekend’s six races, the fight is far from over.

Rudman, who is seeking his second Legends Cars crown after winning the championship in 2019, has been the pace-setter all season long with some dominant performances and fantastic drives through the order. His tally of 16 race victories thus far very much speaks for itself.

Mickel meanwhile, with 11 wins under his belt, heads to Brands Hatch as the ‘form’ driver after bagging four outstanding victories at Pembrey in South Wales last time out.

Double points are on offer across the Junior Saloon Car Championship’s two races and that could play a crucial role in deciding the outcome of the title. Charlie Hand is currently in the box seat however one bad race could see the likes of Harvey Caton, Alfie Jeakins and Ruben Hage get back into contention.

Rounding out the weekend’s track action will also be races from the Classic Touring Car Racing Club and Carbon8 Hyundai Coupe Cup with Toyo Tires.

BARC basks in the Pembrey sun to serve up blockbuster weekend of action

The British Truck Racing Championship took centre stage at Pembrey Circuit this past weekend (October 9/10) to headline what was an action-packed British Automobile Racing Club event in South Wales.

Having not raced at the venue since 2019, the heavyweight behemoths made a triumphant return to the picturesque Welsh countryside in front of a bumper crowd and delivered quite the show.

Division 1 saw reigning champion Ryan Smith power his way to an impressive pair of wins whilst Martin Gibson, Stuart Oliver and Tom O’Rourke also stood on the top step of the podium in the glorious autumn sunshine.

In Division 2, Craig Reid all-but wrapped up the coveted crown as he stormed to four sensational wins. John Powell proved to be the only driver that could stop him from taking a clean sweeping, netting a long overdue victory in race two.

Elsewhere, Miles Rudman took a step closer to clinching a second Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres title. On what proved to be a thrilling penultimate for the much-loved category, Rudman put himself in the box seat heading into the series finale, despite a superlative weekend for John Mickel.

Saturday’s spoils were shared between multiple champion Mickel and Will Gibson before Sunday saw Rudman come to the fore with a win of his own. Mickel however piled the pressure back on the leader as he claimed two more victories.

Charlie Hand edged ever-closer to clinching the Junior Saloon Car Championship too, as he delivered a mesmerising performance. Having been one of the leading lights since the season-opener, Hand’s championship juggernaut continued in South Wales.

After charging to pole position, the sophomore racer stormed to victory in race one and he then went on to do the same in races two and three as well.

In the Pickup Truck Racing Championship, George Turiccki underlined his class with a superlative two wins after Reece Jones enjoyed a return to winning ways in the opener.

The Lancaster Insurance MG Owners Club Championship signed off its season in style with two pulsating contests. William Sharpe piloted his MG ZR to a commanding win in race one before repeating the feat in the second bout.

Pembrey also played host to the final chapter of the Max5 Racing Championship campaign. As he has done on countless occasions this year, Paul Roddison proved to be in a league of his own as he signed off another stellar season with two more wins, both of which were executed in commanding fashion.

Rounding out the weekend’s track action were two races from the always entertaining Welsh Sports/Saloon Car Championship. Boasting a bumper entry, Keith Butcher and Damian Longotano proved too much for the opposition as they claimed a win apiece.

Blockbuster BARC action headlines truck-tastic Snetterton weekend

The British Automobile Racing Club produced a blockbuster two days of wheel-to-wheel entertainment at Snetterton this past weekend (September 18/19).

Headlining the weekend were the heavyweight behemoths of the British Truck Racing Championship – and they didn’t disappoint those watching trackside.

Saturday would see Martin Gibson and Ryan Smith score a win apiece in Division 1 whilst Division 2 honours would fall the way of Craig Reid as he powered his Iveco Stralis to an impressive brace.

On Sunday, former champion David Jenkins, John Newell and Gibson triumphed in the premier class whilst Reid continued his winning streak in Division 2, charging to victory in every bout.

From the five tonne monsters of the BTRC to the pocket rockets of the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres – there was something for everyone at the Norfolk venue.

Serving up six frenetic races across the weekend, the trio of Will Gibson, Chris Needham and John Mickel shared the spoils on day one before championship leader Miles Rudman fired back with a sensational hat-trick on day two.

The Classic Touring Car Racing Club took fans on spirited trip down memory lane as they showcased some of the best tin tops from yesteryear. Boasting packed grids throughout their championships, the CTCRC edged closer to its finale in style.

Mark Lucock and Thomas Harvey were victorious in the Pre ’66/Pre ’83 races whilst Gary Prebble reigned supreme in the two Pre ’93/Pre ’03 duels.

Elsewhere, James Card powered his way to a win the Class Thunder/BOSS contests, before going on to win the second race. Rounding out the CTCRC extravaganza was two races from the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club which were won by Tom Robinson.

George Turiccki remains on course to retain his Pickup Truck Racing Championship title after producing a faultless performance which saw his charge to two wins.

Nothing could split Steve McDermid and Fergus Campbell in the Lancaster Insurance MG Owners Club Championship. The pair claimed a win and a second place finish apiece to rule the roost in the much-loved multi-class series.

Rounding out the weekend’s action was a 45-minute bout from the Uncle Luke’s Snetterton Saloons which was won by Phil Knibb.

Five BARC championships set for Snetterton showdown

The British Automobile Racing Club travels to Snetterton this coming weekend (September 18/19) for two days of track action that has all the hallmarks of having those in attendance on the edge of their seats from start-to-finish.

As the battle for supremacy in the race for titles begins to ramp, the Norfolk venue is set to stage no less than 24 races over the course of Saturday and Sunday – and none are worth missing.

Undoubtedly headlining the action will be five colossal contests from the five-tonne, 1000bhp behemoths of the British Truck Racing Championship. In what has already proven to be a captivating season, the race for top spot in both Division’s 1 and 2 is taking shape.

David Jenkins leads the way in the Division 1 ranks, albeit by a slender six-point margin. Boasting a wealth of experience, the former champion knows what it takes to win a championship and he will need to draw on all of it if he is to fend off the likes of Martin Gibson and reigning title holder Ryan Smith.

Over in Division 2 it is beginning to become a two-horse race for championship honours. Just 14 points split Craig Reid and Steven Powell as it stands, with the pendulum likely poised to swing to either one of them.

The Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres has once again served up a feast of entertainment this year and heading to Snetterton, Miles Rudman is in the box seat to regain his crown.

After winning five out of the six races at Donington Park last month, Rudman has built ups healthy lead at the standings summit. However, he’ll need to continue his fine run of form if he’s to withstand the challenge from the likes of Will Gibson, John Mickel and Jack Parker, to name but a few.

Snetterton is the latest destination for the Pickup Truck Racing Championship, with two races scheduled to play out around the challenging 2.99-mile circuit. George Turiccki has proven to be the benchmark this season so far and it’s expected he will be in the mix again.

Fans will take a trip down memory lane during the weekend as well thanks to the Classic Touring Car Racing Club. Showcasing the very best tin tops from yesteryear, a stunning eight races will take place for the CTCRC

Drivers such as Alan Greenhalgh, Barry Sime, Mike Luck, Ian Bower, Garry Prebble, AJ Owen, David Howard, Piers Grange and Andy Robinson have all enjoyed strong campaigns and they, like many others, will have their sights set on silverware.

The Lancaster Insurance MG Owners Club Championship will also be there and looking to steal the show as it embarks on the penultimate event of its 2021 season. Taking fans on a spirited trip down memory lane, the single-manufacturer series showcases some of the very best models to boast the MG badge.

Notable names to look out for over the course of Saturday’s two bouts include Steve McDermid, Jim Baynam, David Amphlett and Chris Pollard, amongst many more.

Capping off the weekend’s action alongside the BARC programme will be two races from the Snetterton Saloons.

Action all the way as BARC championships star at Convoy in the Park

Donington Park provided the backdrop for a spectacular two days of track action this past weekend (August 21/22) as the British Automobile Racing Club took centre stage at Convoy of the Park.

Making a triumphant return after a pandemic-enforced hiatus last year, the festival of all things trucking was back and better than ever, with a bumper trackside crowd soaking up the variety of attractions situated around the Leicestershire venue.

Whilst the likes of a stunt arena and a glittering array of Show Trucks garnered plenty of attention away from the track, on it saw non-stop edge-of-the-seat entertainment in mixed weather conditions.

The British Truck Racing Championship served up five blockbuster contests and there was to be action aplenty across both Division’s 1 & 2. In Division 1, former champion David Jenkins ignited his title charge with a strong showing as he scored a brace of wins, as did Martin Gibson, whilst John Newell was the other winner.

In Division 2, Michael Oliver enjoyed a weekend to remember as he marked his return to the series with a hat-trick of wins. Jock Borthwick and Craig Reid also tasted success as they topped the podium in the remaining two bouts.

Miles Rudman staked his claim to being the driver of the weekend as he produced a sensational performance in the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres.

Looking to extend his advantage at the summit of the standings, the former champion scored five wins from six races to put himself in the box seat to regain his crown. Jack Parker prevented Rudman from a clean sweep as he claimed the remaining win.

Spoils were shared in the Pickup Truck Racing Championship as Paul Tompkins charged to victory in the opening encounter before former BTCC race-winner Matt Simpson scored his maiden win the series.

Elsewhere, Paul Rose was at his brilliant best in the CNC Heads Sports/Saloon Car Championship as he netted an impressive brace. At the wheel of his Saker RAPX S1-500, the past champion dominated proceedings to add to his silverware collection.

Big grids were the order of the weekend when it came to the Caterham Graduates Championship, with all classes boasting bumper numbers. In the Sigma 135 category, David Read and Ben Buckley snagged a win apiece whilst Stephen Clark and Harry Senior did the same in the amalgamated Sigmax / Sigma 150 races.

Rounding out the weekend’s action under the flight path of East Midlands airport was a scheduled three-hour race from the Silverlake C1 Racing Series. Whilst the contest finished 30 minutes early, the competition was as fraught as ever – with the CSC Racing duo of Patrick Scharfegger and Simon Kilham triumphing.

Convoy in the Park gears up for return at Donington Park with unmissable race schedule

Donington Park will rumble to the sounds of horsepower this weekend (August 21/22) as the British Automobile Racing Club speeds into Leicestershire for a titanic two days of track action.

After being postponed last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Convoy in the Park makes a triumphant return. Showcasing more than 1000 Show Trucks, driving experiences, stunt arena, trade village and much more, the two-day event is a festival of all things trucking that is fun for all the family.

Whilst there is set to be plenty to see off-track over the course of the weekend, on it will see a number of championships continue their 2021 campaigns.

Heavyweight thrills ’n’ spills will be provided by the British Truck Racing Championship, with bumper entry lists in Division’s 1 & 2 confirmed for its five scheduled contests.

Reigning champion Ryan Smith is in the box seat of Division 1 as it stands after making a lightening start and he will be hard to beat once again. In Division 2, just a couple of points separate Craig Evans and Steven Powell heading into the weekend.

Miles Rudman occupies top spot in the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres standings and the former champion looks in good form as he seeks to retain the title he lost last year.

With no less than six races set to play out under the flight path of East Midlands airport during the weekend, Rudman will need to be at his best as the likes of John Mickel, Jack Parker and Sean Smith, amongst many more, will all be hot on his heels.

The Pickup Truck Racing Championship has been home to a number of edge-of-the-seat moments this year and more are expected to come, whilst there have also been plenty of entertaining battles in the Caterham Graduates Championship.

Notable names to look out for during the weekend amongst the Caterham contingent include Harry Senior, Ben Winrow, Jamie Ellwood, James McCall and several more.

Saturday afternoon will see the Silverlake C1 Racing Series take centre stage as they hold what should be an enthralling 180-minute endurance race around Donington’s flowing curves.

Rounding off the weekend will be a regular appearance from the BARC North West Centre’s flagship series, the CNC Heads Sports/Saloon Car Championship. Renowned for producing close-quarter racing, the multi-class series isn’t to be missed.

Mixed weather adds to BARC spectacle at Croft

Mixed weather conditions only added to the spectacle at Croft this past weekend (August 7/8) as the British Automobile Racing Club served up a motorsport bonanza in North Yorkshire.

In what is always a popular trip to the north of England, five championships continued their campaigns in front of an enthusiastic trackside crowd.

Miles Rudman maintained his position at the top of the Legends Cars National Championship with MRF Tyres standings after producing an impressive performance around the 2.12-mile circuit.

Chalking up two wins, the former champion was one of the leading lights over the course of the weekend whilst there were also victories for John Mickel, Will Gibson and a brace of Jack Parker.

The Caterham Graduates Championship produced its fair share of thrills and spills with no less than four races taking centre stage too. Wheel-to-wheel action ran throughout the entire Sigma 135 class as James McCall and David Read each scored victory.

Elsewhere, the amalgamated Sigma 150 / Sigmax bouts also saw a different driver stand on the top step of the podium in each encounter. Harry Senior – one of the in-form drivers heading into the event – starred in race one as he powered to victory before Ben Winrow came to the fore in race two.

There was unmissable action in the CNC Heads Sports/Saloon Car Championship. Jon Woolfitt powered his Spire GTR to top spot in race one before Paul Rose bounced back from a retirement to end the weekend on a high, winning race two.

It proved to be an emotional weekend for the Silverlake C1 Racing Series as the Club paid tribute to the late Angela Lucas, who tragically passed away at an event at Snetterton last month.

Following a poignant tribute lap, the 31-car grid embarked on an action-packed three-hour race which saw Team Davies ultimately prevail. The team of John Davies and Matthew Davies delivered a commanding drive to claim the chequered flag by more than 30 seconds.

Capping off the weekend’s track action were two contests from the ever-entertaining MINI CHALLENGE Trophy. Boasting a near 30-car field, Joe Wiggin and Nicky Taylor enjoyed a share of the spoils as they claimed a win apiece.
