One of the most open seasons in recent memory – the 2025 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship is ready to hit the track. One of the best-loved, and most prestigious motor racing championships in the world – Britain’s premier racing series organised in conjunction with the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) attracts some of the best drivers in the country, while grandstands and spectator banks are packed for BTCC weekends up and down the country.
The action-packed calendar features all of the UK greats, including BARC-owned Thruxton and Croft as well as Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Donington, Snetterton, Oulton Park and Knockhill. Seven different motoring marques are represented on the grid, with four-former champions and 15 former race winners among the 24 strong driver cast. We lift the lid, and give you a few tips on who to look out for this season.
24 drivers compete for the overall coveted BTCC title – while there are also subcategories for Constructor programs and Independent team entries – with four powerhouse preparation teams in each category.
In the Constructors, reigning champion Jake Hill is back to defend his hardly fought title as he leads the line-up for West Surrey Racing. WSR will field four BMWs under the banners of Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport, LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR and Team BMW – with Hill joined by some new team recruits. Regular BTCC campaigner Aiden Moffat, Filipino driver Daryl DeLeon and BTCC newcomer Charles Rainford will represent the Bavarian brand in 2025.
2022 Champion Tom Ingram will be eager to recapture glory for himself and Team Vertu. The Englishman will be joined by the evergreen Tom Chilton who is in his 19th BTCC season and new signing Adam Morgan who will be eager to return to winning ways – all at the wheel of the rapid Hyundai i30 Fastback.
Defending team champions NAPA Racing UK boast one of the strongest line-ups on the grid with the now iconic blue and yellow Ford Focus. Dan Cammish is one of the drivers who has honed his tin-top skillset and feels ready to become champion, but in equal machinery Cammish will have to content with teammates Dan Rowbottom, Sam Osborne and four-time BTCC Champion Ash Sutton – who is eyeing a record breaking fifth trophy lift come Brands Hatch in October.
Strengthening in numbers and gaining momentum with every season are Toyota Gazoo Racing UK – now with an all new four-driver line-up. Three time Champion Gordon Shedden makes a welcome return after three years away. He is joined in the Corollas by Irish BTCC race winner Aron Taylor-Smith, hot property Ronnan Pearson and talented prospect James Dorlin who moves across from sports cars into the tin-top category.
In the Independents – several drivers will be looking to put the larger teams to the sword in the fight for victories. One Motorsport return to the grid after a year-long absence, with the hugely successful Honda Civic Type R. The Brackley- based are delighted to have bagged the experienced pairing of Josh Cook and Stephen Jelley to press for podiums.
Restart Racing have acquired two Hyundai i30s for the promising Dan Lloyd and Chris Smiley who will both most certainly start as a few title dark horses.
The Cupra Leon in the hands of Un-Limited Motorsport are one of the youngest teams on the grid – but that wont stop their ambitions on track, with the team inking the deal with teenager Max Hall who came second in the MINI Challenge UK series, Dexter Patterson who already has two strong BTCC seasons under his belt already and trailblazing pioneer Nicolas Hamilton who makes a welcome return to the series in a third Leon.
The seventh and final brand represented is Vauxhall through the Motor Parts Direct with Power Maxed Racing team – with Mikey Doble back for a third season – leading the Power Maxed assault in 2025.
Taking place across ten weekends, a total of 30 races are run during the season with the grid all vying for supremacy – and edge-of-the-seat action is guaranteed as the title battle traditionally goes down to the wire on the final race of the final round. Let battle commence!
Motorsport fans will be able to watch all the action from the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship race weekends LIVE on ITV4 and ITVX – with a comprehensive day of racing coverage on Sundays.
