A new single make championship, run by Keptech and the British Automobile Racing Club, is set to launch in 2019.
Renowned for their engineering prowess, the Tamworth-based company announced the news on the BARC’s stand on the opening day of the Autosport Show.
Open to Westfield cars that will be built and supplied by Keptech themselves, the championship will comprise of six weekend’s and 18 races in total - visiting some of the UK’s top venues along the way.
With the aim of providing a low cost method of motorsport, cars will cost £24,000 (including VAT) and in addition, Keptech will also pay 50% of the entry fees for the 2019 season.
Taster and test days are already being planned with three race meetings in the second half of the 2018 campaign set to run too, although dates are yet to be confirmed. The events during the latter stages of the season will be designed to give customers the opportunity to hit the track with their new cars.
“It is our ambition to create a cost effective, competitive club championship where money can not buy an advantage and enjoyment is the key,” Keptech Managing Director, Brent Millage, explained.
Ian Watson, BARC General Manager, added: “We want to put something together that is similar to Caterhams but not a rival to it. The aim is to start off at club events and give drivers the opportunity to drive in a non-pressure environment.
“It is great to have them on our stand at the Autosport Show stand and gives everyone involved an opportunity to begin building towards next year.”
