Donington Park primed for BARC championships

31 Aug 17

It is all to play far at Donington Park this weekend as a host of British Automobile Racing Club championships hitting the track once again.

As the season begins to wind down, the action set to only intensify with title needing to be won and drivers keen to impress before the chequered flag falls.

Topping the bill at the Leicestershire circuit this weekend is the ever-growing Dunlop Endurance Championship run by Britcar.

Boasting big grid and a great mix of jaw-dropping machinery this year, Donington Park is set to be a pivotal stop on the calendar. As it stands, four teams find themselves firmly in the hunt for the title with the trio of Witt Gamski, Ross Wylie and Joe Macari topping the standings.

Emerging as pace-setters at nearly every event, the Ferrari 458 GTE squad hold a slender one-point lead over their nearest challengers in the Team HARD-run Ginetta G55, Tom Barley and Simon Rudd.

The teams of Bonamy Grimes / Johnny Mowlem and Darron Lewis / Tom Knight are not to be counted out either as they bid to close the gap on the leaders under the flightpath of East Midlands airport.

Keep an eye out for Junior Saloon Car champion turned Ginetta driver Katie Milner, who makes her debut in the series behind the wheel of a Porsche. With one 50-minute race and a longer two-hour encounter making up a majority of Saturday’s running, Britcar isn’t to be missed.

Whilst Milner makes her debut in Britcar, this year’s crop of Junior Saloon Car Championship drivers will duke it out too. Serving as the penultimate stop on the calendar, four drivers enter the weekend with a realistic shot of being champion.

Will Dyrdal leads the way from Ethan Hammerton, Gordon Mutch and Sam Kirkpatrick, with just 27 points covering the quartet.

There are equally exciting championship battles taking place in the Kumho BMW Championship too with all classes competing over both days too.

Throw into the mix the popular Hyundai Coupe Cup, BARC South East Centre Tin Tops and Intermarque categories and you can see why it is going to be a frenetic weekend of on-track thrills.
